Our first writing contest at the Arlington County Detention Center was held in August 2018. ABC 7 News covered the awards ceremony where one of the inmates read his entry.
“Inmates don’t always know how to express themselves, and that sometimes can lead them to acting out. Giving them a coping mechanism to verbalize what they are thinking and feeling has positive effects. And it can build up their self-esteem.” This is the exact outcome we are hoping for inmates.
