Our founder and executive director, Jane Collins, only had half an hour to talk about all things Heard on June 18. 2020. It was a tough one, because there’s so many great things to say about us! How do you think she did? You can watch it here.

Love this story about “Rainbow Bird” created by one of our Friends of Guest House clients!
All of the birds were mean to Rainbow Bird, but Rainbow Bird was kind and helped them when they needed food. We can all learn from this very short story.

Divine Light
Aimee Treakle, Friends of Guest House , May 28, 2020
I stare at her reflection.
Caught in the spark of spirit twinkling in her eyes.
The skin sags, the smile twists, but the eyes… The eyes shine with the soul within.
Windows to an innocent heart.
My very own piece of divine light.

Dreams
Aimee Treakle, Friends of Guest House , May 28, 2020
Dreams, fantasies dancing in the dark.
Puzzles piecing together in my consciousness.
Bitter memories flowing into sweet lessons.
Building blocks for a sounder morning.
Dark past translating into tomorrow’s take to be told.

full circle
Chazcie Heflin, Friends of Guest House , May 28, 2020
i have fear
can i be normal
i have fear
can i change my way of life
i have fear
can i change my thinking
i have fear
can i stand TALL
i have fear
can i be a good mom
i have fear
of the unknown
i have fear
can they be better than me
i have fear all the time
but as i wake
the sun comes in
my heart slows
as the fears slip away
my heart fills with hope
i become stronger everyday

NOW
Aimee Treakle, Friends of Guest House , May 22, 2020
Now I am quiet
sitting still as the
sands fall.
Now I am waiting
for a new day to
come bright with
a new future.

NEXT
Aimee Treakle, Friends of Guest House , May 22, 2020
Next is the idea of
what has not yet become
it is all that will be
but next leaves behind
all that is and was.
For a long time I lived
with no concept of next
and only recently have
I been able to grasp
the concept of
the existence of
tomorrow.

DO IT NOW
Contessia, Friends of Guest House , May 22, 2020
DO IT NOW…
Dont run…
always two steps behind..
now im trapped…
in my mind…
end is near…
do i keep trying…
stop asking if im okay…
no more lying..
fake mask is heavy…
eyes cant hold back..
mind has won…
done living in the black..
DO IT NOW..
NEXT IN MY LIFE..
I will fight my demons…
i will win..
i will remain focused…
until the end…
helping others..
always my goal…
future look out…
im on a roll…
my kids are happy….
I am proud…
i will let my laugh be heard…
very loud…
DO IT NOW…
dont run…
the future is all to fun…
two steps behind..in my mind…
NEXT ill reach my goal…
NOW do i keep trying?..
Next ill be smiling..
NOW my mind has won…
NEXT ill take back control…
get back on my roll….
NO longer tired of trying…
my future is brightening…

Changing Self
Chazcie Heflin, Friends of Guest House , May 22, 2020
changing self
the path i take
ending relationships
the steps to get there
beginning life a new
the choice before me
not knowing where to go
the decision to make
love pulls me home
the answer to my prayers
treasure of staying
the reflection of thought
self reliant
the 2 paths of a road
do it now
which way to go left or right

I Will
Ayla Landry, Friends of Guest House , May 22, 2020
Now i will build trust.
I will work hard on new horizons.
I will be bolder.
I will be brighter.
Next i will enjoy more,
love more,
